In Year One the children follow the Key Stage One National Curriculum.
At Carlyle School we feel the key to learning is through play based fun activities, where children feel safe to investigate and as a result enthusiastically accept many interesting challenges.
Look how busy we are – just a snapshot of Year One!!
In Geography we learn about other countries as we follow Barnaby Bear as he travels the globe. We look at ways to look after our Planet and investigate the local land use.
Science Days enhance our curriculum areas as each classroom becomes a laboratory for the day and sometimes a “Professor” supports investigations in Year One.
Local visits to Sudbury Museum of Childhood and Crich Tramway Museum support research into the past in History
Maths Days are fun as we investigate and challenge our numerical thinking.
During Book week an author visits – “Wow I could actually be an Author!”
Our creative work is exhibited throughout school highlighting efforts in Design Technology and Art.
Performing to friends in Year One is a constant theme –
Drama in Literacy.
Composing and reciting in Music
Dance and Gymnastics routines are evaluated and improved during PE.
