Foundation Stage Two

The curriculum is play based but gradually becomes more formal to enable children to cope effectively with the demands of Key Stage One. Children make excellent progress during this year due to the wide range of challenging and fun activities we provide to enhance learning.

Much of our work is practical and physical - we learn to write through dance, we learn our sounds through singing!

We learn to use numbers in real situations (book shops, sharing sandwiches, measuring each other and the playground) so that we have a purpose for learning.

We explore our environment through walks in our grounds and the surrounding area. Recording what we have seen, heard or collected (sometimes on the computer) helps us make sense of the world around us.

Through regular circle times, class councils and discussions we learn to live together as a school community.

Like the rest of the school we do PE every day and use physical activity to help keep us all fit, healthy, alert and engaged in our learning (this includes dance, aerobics, actions songs, gymnastics and games).

There are many opportunities for creative expression through painting, collage, drawing, dance, singing, composing, exploring musical instruments and drama.
