The Governing Body at Carlyle Infant School oversees and helps to decide on school policies and shares in the responsibility for the management of the school. The Governing Body sets strategic direction for the school; ensures robust accountability and ensures financial probity.
The Governing Body is made up of 10 governors as follows:- two parent governors, one LA governor, one Staff governor, one Headteacher, five Co-opted governors. Co-opted governors are to be determined by the GB and no more than 1/3 where they are also eligible to be elected as staff governors when counted with the staff governor and headteacher.
Full meetings are held at least twice termly and the minutes of meetings are provided in the entrance area for parents to read.

Phil joined the Governing Board in May 2017 and was elected as Chair in May this year; his term of office is 4 years. He is the Lead Governor on Buildings and & Health & Safety.
Phil is a Director of Schneider-Electric, a large global electrical Equipment manufacturer
Phil is also a STEM ambassador and Enterprise Advisor, and serves on the Early Years Training Board and has over 15 years of experience on Governing Boards of Derby Schools across all age groups.
He believes in being a strong member of the Carlyle family working with the Staff and Governors to ensure all children achieve their maximum potential.
Helen Roebuck is the Staff Governor for the school, and her term of office is 4 years from January 2015. Helen sits on the Curriculum committee along with the Finance and Personnel Committee. Helen is the lead governor for the library.
Helen is the Senior Assistant Head Teacher and co-ordinator for Special Educational Needs and Disability. She has taught for 11 years and previously worked in banking. She feels that the experience of a customer facing role coupled with her understanding of education can be helpful to the children, parents, staff and governors. She believes that the school should be a welcoming environment for all our community and that learning should be an enjoyable experience for all. You are never too old to learn!
Helen is also the Lead Governor for British Values.
Laura Besenzi is the Headteacher of the School and therefore does not have a set term of office, she has been in post since 13th April 2015. Laura is a member of the Curriculum committee, Finance and Personnel committee and Health, Safety and Premises Committee. Laura is also the lead governor for Supply and Cover arrangements.
Ben Gray is our Vice-Chair of Governors and Co-Opted Governor, his term of office is 4 years from 25th January 2016. Ben sits on the Curriculum, Pupil and Safeguarding Committee and Finance and Resources Committee. Ben is standing in as curriculum governor for ICT, Maths and Science, and is the Anti Bullying Lead Governor and Safeguarding Lead.
Jessica Sweetman is a Parent Governor and was duly elected on the 4th November 2016. Jessica’s term of office is four years. Jessica sits on the Curriculum, Pupil and Safeguarding and Finance and Resources Committees.
Saqib Amin is a Co-Opted Governor and was duly elected on the 21st November 2016. Saqib’s term of office is four years. Saqib sits on the Curriculum, Pupil and Safeguarding and Finance and Resources Committees.
Phil Moulden joined the Governing Board in May 2017 as co-opted Governor; his term of office is 4 years. Phil is the Lead Governor on Buildings and Maintenance & Health & Safety. Joanna Clark joined the Governing Board in November 2017 as a Co-Opted Governor. Joanna currently works as a Baby Signing Teacher across Derby, working with children and their parents to help them communicate effectively. Previous to this role, Joanna worked in Recruitment and HR for over 10 years in both the public and private sector. Joanna lives in Derby and has two boys, one in Year 2 and one in Nursery.
